Multiple Very Short Downtimes Tonight

Tonight beginning at 01:00 customers may experience email, DNS and web service outages, none of which will happen simultaneously, and none lasting more than 10 minutes.

These will happen until no later than 01:45

These outages will be the result of system kernel updates that address security issues.

Partial Downtime Tonight For Outgoing Mail

Outgoing email will be unavailable tonight for approximately one hour beginning at 01:00 to replace the Exim mail server with the venerable Sendmail server instead.

Incoming mail, checking your mail, web services and all other services will be unaffected.

Also, as a reminder, please be certain to set up your name and email address in the preferences if you are using the webmail system to send email, otherwise your email address will show a default of orbislumen.net .

If you ever experience popup warnings from your email program or web browser when performing encrypted transactions, you can make them go away very easily by importing the Orbis Lumen Certificate Authority (CA) files. Detailed, very simple instructions are available.

Short Downtime Tomorrow Morning

Greetings.

Well, as many of you have noticed it's been an eventful few days. However, the bigger upgrade work is swiftly coming to an end.

Tonight (tomorrow morning) there will be downtime for less than 30 minutes beginning at 01:00. The downtime will most likely only last for about 10 minutes.

It will effect nearly all services, as it is a move of the main storage array. After this, in the next few days, there will be only one more hardware move, when the auxiliary array on xtej1118 is expanded.

Spam Filtering Now Completely Under End-User Control

With the new service upgrades, some customers may have noticed that spam is appearing in their Inboxes rather than going to their spam folders.

This is happening because all spam filtering capabilities are now within each person's individual control.

If you would like spam to be filtered into spam folders on the mail server automatically, you will need to tell the server to do this. Detailed instructions about the spam identification system and how you can use it are available.

Of course, please contact us if you have any questions.

Please Change Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers

Customers using Orbis Lumen mail servers for their incoming and outgoing mail are asked to change the name of their incoming and outgoing mail servers in their mail programs as part of our ongoing upgrade process. All other settings can be left the same.

Incoming (IMAP)imap.orbislumen.net
Outgoing (SMTP)mx3.orbislumen.net

The old settings will remain working until midnight 25 April 2007, after which they will become invalid. These new settings must be used.

Our apologies for any inconvenience. This change will allow us to perform a low-level upgrade to the server currently servicing your email requests.

Please contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.
